From May 18th, 2023, 38 senior secondary schools in Ibadan, Oyo State competed in the preliminaries for a chance to participate in the Grand finale of the FAME Secondary School Leadership Competition. All the schools fought hard for their place in the finale, but only 12 were able to secure slots at the finale stage. Ahead of the finale, three schools who lost their preliminary qualifiers with the highest points were invited to join the finale, by virtue of losing their contests with impressive scores.
Hence, 15 schools made headway for the Finale stage contests. Only these 15 schools out of the 38 were able to mount on the stage to compete for the three trophies in the ultimate stage of the FSSLC2023: Finale. The Finale of the 2023 edition, which concluded the FSSLC 2023 season, was held on Saturday, May 27th, 2023, at the KAAF Auditorium, University of Ibadan.
In the debate category, Queens School, Government College; Yejide Girls and St Louis squared off in a final contest reminiscent of an FSSLC classic match-up.
In the Spelling Bee category, All Souls High School, Abadina College, Rochas Foundation College, Ikolaba High School, and Queens School squared off in a very emotional final contest.
In the Quiz Category, after the speed race elimination rounds, Ibadan Grammar School, Islamic Day, St Anne’s Girls, All Souls High School, Rochas Foundation College, and Anglican Grammar School squared off in a fierce final contest.
What was anticipated to be a heated race for the trophy and claim to the bragging right as the 2023 FAME Secondary School 2023 Champions, lived up to the expectations for all the fifteen schools.
Following an exhilarating final round in the debate category, the eloquent speaker from Government College, Ibadan emerged as the winner of the debate after defeating the charismatic speaker from Queens School, Ibadan.
In the Spelling Bee Category, the outstanding speller from All Souls High School lost to the resilient speller from Rochas Foundation College.
In the Quiz Category, following a gobsmacking speed race elimination round performance from the Anglican Commercial Boys who came into the competition as underdogs and the finale as one of the best losers.
They went on to defeat the top contenders, Ibadan Grammar School, St Anne’s Girls, All Souls High School, and Rochas Foundation College as they dominated in all rounds and continued in the lead as they rang in precise answers to most of the questions.
Anglican Commercial Grammar School claimed the bragging right as the 2023 Champions in the Quiz Category after the final round.
At the end of the 2023 FAME Secondary School Leadership Competition, Government College, Rochas Foundation College, and Anglican Commercial Secondary School gallantly claimed their 1st FSSLC trophy in the Debate, Spelling Bee, and Quiz Categories respectively.
All the winners in the three categories received trophies, medals, and cash rewards.
